It’s hard to pick a favourite, but it’s the quirky brightside, which has been in business for a decade.
“It’s a place where people come for a bit of fun,” says owner and jeweller Ben Tackett.
“They’re a lot of fun.
It’s just a place for people to come and say ‘hello’ to each other.”
Ben says it’s easy to forget that it’s also a boutique for jewellery and art, as well as a small, intimate space for those seeking to relax and soak up the local vibes.
“People come to the shop and they’re a bit overwhelmed with all the new products,” he says.
“And so I’m just happy to bring them something to relax on and say hi to, to give them a bit more time out and be in the moment.”
Ben’s latest offering is the “Mighty Mellow” necklace.
It features the same golden ringtone, but with gold buttons on the inside, and a small gemstone ring, and the bracelet also has a bracelet clasp.
“The main thing I’m going for is the simplicity of the bracelet,” says Ben.
Ben has been making his “Mightiest Mellow Necklace” for the past six months and has seen it become a favourite with his customers. “
If you look at it, it’s actually pretty simple.”

“I like to see it in people’s hands, I like to give it to people,” he explains.
Ben Tacks sells his jewellery through his website, and sells it on his own site, but he also has his own store and is open to selling in his own shop. “
There’s just something about a bracelet that people like, and I just like to have something that people can wear and take off and put it on and have a smile on their face.”

“You know, if people want to be able to take it home and put on a necklace for their family, that’s great,” he said.
“But I just love that people come to me and say, ‘I need something to take off from the bracelet and put into my bag, because I’ve got this necklace and I can’t take it out’.” Ben has noticed a big change in his customers in the past few months.
“My business is very good, it keeps growing,” he laughs.
“For the past three years, it was a pretty small business, and now it’s grown to a pretty big business, so I feel really good.”
Ben is proud of his jewellers skills and his craft, but admits there are times he struggles.
“At the end of the day, if you don’t know what you’re doing, you can do anything, and it’s fine,” he told News.co.nz.
“When you’re really confident, if I’m not at the peak of my game, I’ll do anything.”
He says he has learnt a lot from his customers, and is confident of his future as a business.
“As long as people know I do my best, I don’t really have any worries about that,” he explained.
Ben Ticks is currently working on his “Wonderful Mellow Mantle” which will be a more practical necklace for his wife, who is getting married next month.
Ben’s favourite necklace, however, is the Mighty Mellow necklace.
“All I want is to wear it in my pocket, so if I get to do that, then I’ll be alright,” he laughed.
“So that’s a bit like my goal, is to make people feel good.”
